How a content day works

1. Plan and run sheet. Before the day, we work out exactly what we are filming and write a run plan. The more specific you are, the better. It lets us hit the mark first time instead of trying a few times.

2. Scripts, if you need them. For a lot of tradies we do a couple of ad based videos, so we give you the scripts.

3. The shoot day. We come to you and film the work, the process and everything around it. A solar company we shot recently had its before and afters covered in one day.

4. A mix of photo and video. Video engages better but costs more and takes more time. Photos fill in the gaps and make easy posts.

5. Edit and delivery. We edit it all into content you can post, and it comes to you through our client Portal.

6. On a retainer, we come in every month on a set day. Posts start about two weeks after we film, so you are always two weeks ahead.

Volume matters as much as quality

Video is always higher engaging. It also costs more and takes more effort. Photos are easy posts, and they increase your volume.

To some degree volume is more important than quality. The more you post, the more consistent you are, and the better you do overall. So we prefer a mix and we get out as much as we can.

Before the shoot

Have the business ready: presentable, clean and organised. Tell everyone featuring or in the background that we are coming, so no one looks at the camera who should not. Give anyone talking on camera a bit of practice.

The thing clients most often get wrong is not being specific. Tell us exactly what you want, ideally beforehand. That lets us plan the day and saves everyone time.

One day, or every month?

A content day is a one-off. A retainer is the same thing every month, from $2,000 a month, tailored to the business. For most businesses a retainer suits best, because the content keeps coming and is not ad hoc.

How much comes out of a day depends on the business. Some are easier than others. We tell you what we think is realistic before you book.

What is a content day, and what do I get?

One shoot day, and a month of content out of it. We plan the day around what you actually need to post, shoot it in one visit, then cut it into a batch of pieces sized for the platforms they are going on rather than one long video nobody watches. From $2,800. Prices ex GST.

How much content do we get from one day?

It depends on the business. Some are easier to film than others. A tradie with a lot of work to show gives us plenty. We do not promise a number before we know what is there. We plan the day with you and aim to get as much as we can out of it.

Is a content day photos or video?

Usually a mix. Video always engages better, but it costs more and takes more time and effort. So we get a lot of photos to supplement it. Photos make very easy posts and lift your volume. We prefer a mix.

What should we sort before the shoot?

Have the business presentable, clean and organised. Let anyone featuring or in the background know we are coming. Make sure anyone talking on camera has had a bit of practice. And share any specific ideas you have before the day, so we can plan and get as much as possible.

How soon do posts start on a retainer?

We aim to start posts about two weeks from when we filmed. That is slower than most things we do. It means the social calendar is always planned two weeks ahead, so nobody is rushing to get posts ready within a week.

Who owns the finished footage?

You do. Once the work is handed over it is yours to use however you want, with no per-use licence and nothing to renew. We may still use it in our own portfolio and marketing, which is the one thing we keep. If a piece is sensitive and you would rather we did not, say so and we will not.
