How to brief a video company so you get what you pictured
What to decide first, what to share, what to ask, and what to do if you are buying video for the first time.

When you come to us, the most important thing is to be super clear on what you are looking for. Ideally you know it down to the deliverables. If you do not, just ask for advice. For a lot of people this is their first time buying videography as a service, and that is completely fine.
What should a video brief include?
Be as clear as you can on exactly what you want, down to the deliverables: what you want delivered at the end, and where it will be used. If you cannot get that specific, that is okay. Tell us what you have worked out and we will help with the rest.
What if I have never bought video before?
Ask for advice. For a lot of people it is their first time actually purchasing videography as a service. They do not fully understand what comes with it, and more importantly what they actually need for their business. We would much rather you ask than guess. Tell us about the business and we will say what we think you need.
How do I brief a video company for an event?
Events are usually quite simple, especially for us to work out. We give our general recommendation, and then we work out together what we are going to do.
Why does sharing information matter?
Collaborate well with us. Share a lot of information, and be insightful about what it is you do, so we can get a gauge of all the little intricacies of your business. The more we understand, the closer the result is to what you pictured.
What do we do before the first conversation?
We put a good amount of work into the research phase before we speak with you. We look at your industry, your business, and who you are trying to serve. Then we apply what we know from various other industries directly to you and your specific operation.
Can the package be custom?
Yes. We are happy to build custom packages and offers specific to whatever you need. It is important to us that we help you get the exact result and outcome you are looking for.
Why does a bigger package cost less per deliverable?
We generally try to package for efficiency. The more deliverables you buy, the lower the premium on each one. We will always try to land on what works best for you, and also on what comes at the lowest overall cost when you consider what you are actually getting. Published starting points, all ex GST: a content day from $2,800, a brand film from $4,500, and a content retainer from $2,000 a month, tailored. Events are priced on the brief.
Questions to answer before you brief us
You do not need every answer. Bring what you have and say what you are unsure of.
- What is the video for? A launch, a campaign, your website, social, an event, something else?
- Who is it for? Who do you want to watch it?
- Where will it be used? Website, social, events, a screen in your venue?
- What should someone think or do after watching it?
- What do you want delivered at the end? One film, a set of short clips, photos as well?
- What is the date or deadline, and what is it tied to?
- Where is it happening, and is it more than one location?
- Who has to approve it on your side, and who is the one contact for us?
- What have you seen that you like, and what have you seen that you do not?
- What is the budget, even roughly? A rough number lets us suggest the right package instead of guessing.
- What does your business do that is hard to see from the outside? The little intricacies are the useful part.
Questions to ask us
Ask any video company these. They are fair questions and you should get straight answers.
- What exactly is included, and what would cost extra?
- What will I receive at the end, in what formats?
- How many rounds of changes do I get? Revisions are included, and in practice they are effectively unlimited as long as they stay within the agreed brief. Every job goes through our own internal rounds first, so small errors are picked up before you see it.
- How long until I get it? Video usually comes back within 7 days. That is typical rather than guaranteed, so tell us early if you have a deadline.
- Who owns the finished files? You do, once the work is handed over. We may use it in our own portfolio and marketing.
- Who will I deal with day to day? Us. The people who pitch the job shoot and edit it.
- Can the package be changed to fit what I need?
- What do you need from me before the shoot?
- How far will you travel? We are based in bayside Melbourne and work across the city, and past that as far as a job needs. Tell us where it is.
- How do I get a quote? Send us what you have through the contact page. We reply within one business day.
